Fractional secondary markets

Three books traded on the fractional secondary markets last week. Isaac Newton’s – Principia was flat, while a Harry Potter first edition picked up 14.5% and an inscribed Dune first edition rallied 27%.

Rare books are now trading at an average of 19% premium to their fair market value.

Only one IPO this week, but a fitting one for the upcoming Halloween weekend: Where the Wild Things Are. This first edition, one of 5 similar known, has an original sketch of Wild Thing by Sendek.

At Auction

Swann Galleries’ Fine Books and Autographs opening October 28 has a huge variety on display ranging from the compact disk insert from Nirvana’s Nevermind signed by Kurt Cobain to Robert Indiana’s proof set of The Book of Love to a first trade edition of Virginia Woolf’s magnum opus Orlando.

Opening October 27 at Sotheby’s is The Ricky Jay Collection, featuring works from circus posters to magic history from magician, author, and actor Ricky Jay.
