Invest in Captain America

Welcome to the latest issue of Trading Updates/Comic Books – FREE Version.

Today we’re digging into a special piece of comic book history. Captain America Comics #3 was the first time the comic featured its classic Red Skull cover and was the first time Stan Lee wrote for Marvel. It trades on Rally 18th June from 09:30 to 16:00 EST.

Captain America #3 5.0

What is the asset?

Released in May 1941, this comic features several storylines, but the one we care most about is Traitor’s Revenge, which was Stan Lee’s first published work for Marvel.

In the short story, Colonel Stevens refuses entry to Camp Lehigh to antagonist Lou Haines because of his criminal background.

Haines then vows revenge and attempts to kill Stevens in his sleep. Captain America and Bucky intervene and save the day (night).

Lee later admitted the few pages he wrote were merely filler to fulfill a postage requirement.

What is the current status of the asset?

Initially offered July 2020 with a market cap of $37k, the comic rose a bit before trading down 7% last window. Its current market cap is set at $39k.

Asset Growth

It’s difficult to say, but the last time a 4.0 sold in 2014, it was for $11k. So that’s at least 150% since then.

Growth Outlook and Future Catalysts

Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a Disney+ miniseries, premiered in March 2021 and was the most-watched series premiere ever for the streaming service.

This miniseries was created in anticipation of a fourth Captain America film, which is currently in development.

Final Thoughts

This is the first comic to trade since the flurry of buyouts over the last couple weeks. If it trades down (as most comics have), it could be a good pick up on the dip. If not, it may be a pass.
