Cultural assets performance 2021

Cultural assets continued their strong year with a flat week. They’ve been one of the strongest performers across the board in 2021.

Last week’s performance

Fractional secondary markets

Toys continued their upward march last week advancing 21.7% while everything else was flat to down.

All stats come from assets trading on the secondary markets at Otis, Collectable, and Rally

This Week

???? Someone to love, somebody new; someone to love, someone like you ????

Rally is dropping two assets this week that are sure to tug at nostalgic heartstrings – one from the 1980s and another from the 1960s.

At Auction

A rare first-printing of the most iconic poster in music history is up for auction at Heritage this week – a 1966 “Skeleton and Roses” Family Dog poster from the Grateful Dead’s September 16/17 shows at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.

A copy of this poster graded CGC 9.8 sold for $118,750 two years ago and would likely go for 2x to 4x that price now.

A more accessible poster from the fabled Avalon Ballroom is currently only at $301. It features Big Brother with Janis Joplin opening for Howlin’ Wolf, and it looks incredible. The show was just a week after the Dead made their appearance.

An original first-printing poster of 1969’s Woodstock concert rounds out the cream of the auction offerings.

You can also buy a prescription medication bottle that belonged to Hugh Hefner for. The medication was, of course, Viagra.

Of potentially greater interest from an investment point of view, a copy of Playboy #1 signed by Heff is also available.

It looks like Sylvester Stallone perhaps has some taxes to pay, as he’s auctioning off a number of iconic pieces from his career next week at Julien’s. Several weapons from Rambo are available as are a tonne of boxing paraphernalia from the Rocky films.

Perhaps the most coveted items will be Stallone’s handwritten scripts for the Rocky films, which are each estimated to go for $50k or above. These scripts are almost certainly a good long to medium term investment. Supply is high with all of them going to auction at once this week, so they’re likely to be priced significantly lower than they would be alone.
